Eileen and Pedro Trailer: The Kiss

It was right before Christmas when Eileen and Pedro got married.  Beautifully decorated Christmas trees adorned the church and the reception.  We titled this trailer "The Kiss" because, as the pastor predicted, it was the best kiss anyone has experienced at a wedding.  Well... at least one of the best.  These two are so in love and it showed with every kiss they shared that night.

Congratulations to you both.  May all your kisses in the years to come be filled with the same love.

At&t, pretty please can I have an iPhone?

Zeus and I recently had a frustrating experience that involves At&t and the iPhone and wanted to share.

I must admit, for all the efforts we have made to make sure we are at the cutting edge of technology, we have yet to get the iPhone.  So for Christmas, we thought it was about that time.  We walked into the Apple store with a twinkle in our eyes, excited to take home a couple of iPhones.  But ran into a problem when we wanted to keep both California and New York numbers on one account.  After a few attempts and an hour and a half later, Apple said we should go to At&t.  They can surely fix the problem.

Discouraged, but still eager to get our new toys, we walked over to the At&t store.  We started the process again for the 5th time and guess what...  no iPhones!  Apparently, At&t does not allow two numbers from separate states to be on one account.  Period.  Seriously, At&t?  Because Verizon has no issue with it.  Is there really no way to override this glitch?  I mean, is there an app for that or something?  Are we really the first couple from two different states that decided they want to have a family plan?!

Okay, deep breath.  There may be other avenues for us to take to get around this.  But my question is, is the iPhone really that cool for me to jump through At&t's hoops to have it?  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  If you have an iPhone and have anything to say about the phone or the service, I would love to know your thoughts.  In the meantime, I guess we're not the only ones frustrated with At&t:

Cabana Pictures wishes you a Happy New Year!

Getting ready to face the day this morning, Zeus and I could not help but think about how much has happened to us in just one short year.  2009 has been a long and wonderful road, hopefully leading us to bigger and better things in 2010.  We not only got married, but we also moved across the country and are settling into our new home quite nicely.  For so many reasons, 2009 was a special year.  We have had so much support from our families and friends, and we just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who helped us make 2009 a year to remember.  We love you all.

We want to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Love,
Jenn and Zeus

Maria and Andres

With blue skies and no trace of humidity, it was the perfect day for Maria and Andres to get married.  As we arrived at the Setai hotel to film Maria getting ready, we found a happy and calm bride ready to become Mrs. Mejia.  We knew as soon as we met them they were no ordinary couple.  Their wedding was an intimate celebration of who they are- fun, sophisticated, and GORGEOUS.  Maria in particular has a wonderfully infectious smile that kept us smiling the whole time we were editing this piece.  We dare you not to smile as you watch their trailer.

You are beautiful as a couple and individually.  We wish you all the best.  Thank you for including us on your special day!

Holiday Inn

As promised, it is time for our first movie of the week!  It wasn't easy trying to come up with the first of our series.  There are so many favorites and so many greats to choose from.  Where to begin?  But with the holidays in full swing, Zeus and I put up our Christmas tree.  And decorating for the holidays always makes me want to see my favorite holiday movies.  So, we might as well start there.

One movie that always gets me in the spirit is Holiday Inn starring Fred Astaire as Ted Hanover, Bing Crosby as Jim Hardy, and Marjorie Reynolds as Linda Mason.  Ted and Jim are a popular song-and-dance duo at a nightclub.  After retiring to a farmhouse in New England, Jim opens it up to the public as an Inn, but only on major holidays.  Linda Mason joins him and not only becomes part of his live entertainment act for guests, but his love interest as well.  Ted comes to visit Jim's inn and becomes determined to make Linda his new dance partner.  And so begins the love triangle.

As an Irving Berlin musical, this movie is full of great numbers.  Fun fact: the popular Christmas song, "White Christmas", was first introduced in Holiday Inn.  In addition to Bing Crosby's crooning, Fred Astaire has two exceptional numbers.  The first being his "Drunk Dance" with Marjorie Reynolds.  Story goes he took a shot before each take and they did 7 takes.  The final take was the one used in the movie.

The second, and perhaps the more well-known, is his 4th of July number in which he throws firecrackers on the floor.

All in all, a fun film with good music and superb dancing.  Cozy up on the couch, grab some hot chocolate, and enjoy!

Who Loves Movies?

It's not every day that you find someone who is as passionate about the same things as you are.  In that respect, Zeus and I feel so lucky to have found each other.  For us, we are most alive when we are creating and coming up with new ideas.  We talk about our ideas for hours.  Seriously... hours.  And we draw a lot of inspiration from watching movies.  But not just watching movies, we try to look at it from the director's perspective and how he/she was able to convey the story, especially through use of camera placement and movement.  When we shoot weddings, we can't control the details: lighting, colors, props, actors.  But we like to film as if we do.  The way we see it- every wedding has a tone just like every movie has a tone.  The more styles we learn about in movies, the more we can bring out the personalities of our clients.

As a film major from Wellesley College, I got the chance to study some great films.  Some good, some bad, some... interesting.  So, in our quest to keep learning, we are dedicating ourselves to watching one movie a week.  And for those of you who love movies as much as we do, we'll pass them on to you.  Old, new, bizarre, frightening, all countries, all genres.  If you watch them or if you've seen them already, we'd love to hear your thoughts.  We are also open to suggestions!  We hope you enjoy.  Expect our first pick later this week.

Don't be scared...

By now, most all wedding videography professionals have heard of and/or started shooting with the Canon 5d Mark ii. If you don't have one already and ready to make the leap, then you are probably struggling with the 5dmkii vs 7d dilemma. We went with 7d for the 24p capabilities. Whatever the final decision is, there is no doubt that you will achieve outstanding footage by using this new technology to shoot your wedding videos.

But to the brides we want to say, don't be scared!! If your videographer- the one you hired to produce a video- shows up on your wedding day with a still photography camera, don't freak out. He/she is probably following the latest movement in wedding cinematography. That's right. 1080p High Definition video is coming out of a camera that looks like what your photographer is using to take pictures. It may seem far-fetched, but the imagery coming out of these cameras is stunning. We are really excited to join the dslr movement (7d footage coming soon), but it's also important to remember that the equipment is not the only thing that makes a good cinematographer. It is what you do with the equipment and how you piece the footage together that tells the story. We love telling stories and finding brand new ways of conveying the meaning and emotion every time we shoot. So we are looking forward to seeing the new ways the dslr can help us produce beautiful wedding videos.

And to the photographers, us videographers mean no harm. We are sticking to what we do best- videos. We just happen to think your equipment is a little cooler than ours... at least for now.

Trash the dress!

One of our favorite pieces from our weddings was our trash the dress shoot with Danielle and Brian. They are such a cute couple together, and so sincere. One of the shots she wanted to mimic was the infamous kiss on the beach in the movie "From Here to Eternity." So we kept the overall theme very romantic and chose to use the film effect on the footage. They were great sports. They got knocked around by the waves a few times, but it was all worth it.

United Against Malaria!

As many of you know, Zeus and I met while working for Fox Soccer Channel. A while back we had the opportunity to be involved in a great campaign to raise money and awareness for the fight against malaria. Here are the facts:

Malaria is the #1 killer of children and pregnant women.
1 million people die each year of Malaria.
3,000 children die each day.
350-500 Million malaria cases a year.
$10 saves a life.

Here is the "Every Goal Saves a Life Campaign" I produced:

Malaria No More on FSC from Cabana Pictures on Vimeo.

That campaign raised 11,340 nets which means 11,340 lives were saved from this horrible epidemic (those numbers were recorded on May 18th).

That campaign is over, and now Zeus is working on an even bigger campaign!! He is working with FC Barcelona, who won Spain's La Liga. They also won the coveted Champions League to claim their title as the best soccer team in Europe. FC Barcelona has joined forces with Malaria No More, Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports Espanol plus other organizations, foundations and governments to launch a campaign called "United Against Malaria." They hope to leverage the historic occasion of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to raise global awareness and renew worldwide commitment to ending malaria. Zeus is responsible for producing a 3:00 mini documentary feature for both FSC and FSE as well as a :30 PSA for both channels. FSC and FSE will be the first to launch the on-air campaign "United Against Malaria."

Spots will hit air in July. Look out for them on on Fox Cable Networks- Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports en Espanol, Fox Sports Net, Fuel, and Fox Reality.
